The New Generation 911 also known as the NG 911 is a mobile application which acts as a quick response tool for life threatening and non-life threatening emergency situations. With just one press, the application has the ability to send the distress signal to the nearest responder available.
What distinguishes NG 911 from other emergency applications is its 3 Factor Authentication. The 3 Factor Authentication makes user identification and tracking a lot easier, discouraging prank calls. The 3 Factor Authentication are as follows:
1. Pre-Registered
Users are required to provide basic information such as name, address, emergency contact, blood type, allergies, medical history, or other information which will be vital for responders during emergency situations.
2. Phone Based Tracking
NG 911 uses the unique code of the phone to track the user. This means that, regardless of the sim card used, the owner of the phone will still be identified.
3. Location Based Tracking
There is no need to ask the person in emergency their exact locations. Distress callers can be easily located by the NG 911.
II. Features
NG 911 is equipped with 3 features which enables a person to use it in different situations.
Life Threatening Situations
For life threatening situations, the red button when pressed sends a distress signal to 911. The distress caller will then receive a call from 911 shortly after. The red button can be found in the middle (please see figure 2 above). Android users also has the option to activate the floater which enables the red button to be accessed on the home screen of their phones.
III. Benefits
No Load Requirement
• NG 911 can be downloaded for free
• No need for load to send distress signals
Benefits for Persons with Disabilities
• NG 911 can be beneficial to persons with speaking and hearing disabilities via its messaging feature.
Shortest Response Routing
• Directs the distress caller to the nearest responder available within the area of the emergency situation
Resource Multiplier
• NG 911 identifies the right agency needed for the emergency situation
• Multiple responders may arrive depending on the emergency situation
Emergency Broadcast System
• NG 911 can be used as a medium for sending disaster alerts or announcements within specific areas and to targeted audience
Instruction Manual:
1. The user sends a distress signal to the LGU command center.
2. The LGU command center then calls the user to verify the emergency situation.
3. From the stored user information and gathered information from the call, the LGU command center creates an incident report.
4. The incident report is then sent to all response units within the area.
5. The responders will receive the incident report notification and when they choose to respond, the system will notify the LGU command center, the rest of the responders, and the user that they’re on their way. Note that multiple responders may choose to respond to the same emergency situation (e.g. Fire emergency with injured people: fire department and medical assistance needed).
NOTE:
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
